USA Luge in Paramonovo, Russia

The USA Luge team, sponsored by World Financial Group (WFG) participated in the penultimate meet on Feb. 12-13 in Paramonovo, Russia. Where would each team member end up in the standings?

In the Nations Cup race, 2009 World Champion Erin Hamlin finished first with a one slide time of 47.190 seconds.  Two other US women placed in the top ten: Julia Clukey’s time of 47.680 earned her sixth place and World Financial Group (WFG)-adopted athlete Ashley Walden came in seventh with a time of 47.825.  In the women’s World Cup race, the teammates all finished in the top 15.  Leading the USA Luge women was Erin with a two-race combined time of 1:35.010, putting her in 13th place.  Immediately behind her was Ashley, coming in 14th with a time of 1:35.084.  And on Ashley’s heels was Julia, who came in 15th with a time of 1:35.493.

The Nations and World Cup doubles matches featured one USA Luge team.  Matthew Mortensen and Preston Griffall finished in the top ten in the Nations Cup race with a sixth place finish of 50.152 seconds.  In the World Cup, they finished 12th with a two-race combined time of 1:35.490.

For the men, two USA Luge team members competed in both the Nations Cup and World Cup.  In the Nations cup slide, Chris Mazdzer finished 9th with a time of 51.223.  World Financial Group (WFG)-adopted athlete Bengt Walden finished 11th with a time of 51.782.  In World Cup sliding, Chris came in 18th with a two-race time of 1:44.402.  Bengt rounded out the top 20 with a time of 1:44.624 for 20th.
