Last month the World Financial Group Roush Fenway Racing No. 60 Show Car made a pit stop in Cullman, Ala., a small town of about 15,000. Not only did it stir up excitement about WFG, it also raised funds for a local charity that helps abused children.

The car was the centerpiece of the WFG Classic Car Show, hosted by WFG associate Raymond Mitchell and his team. The event provided a welcome lift to the spirits of the town, which was struck by a tornado in April that ravaged downtown buildings and residential areas of east Cullman.

According to Raymond, 20 owners of classic cars paid $20 to display their vehicles alongside the No. 60 Ford Mustang and between 300 to 400 people came by the event to see these amazing machines. Attendees had the opportunity to win a variety of prizes, which were raffled off every 15 minutes. One coveted prize was a pair of tickets to a race at the Talladega Superspeedway.

The event brought in $2,000 for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank. Cullman Caring for Kids is a nonprofit organization focused on preventing child abuse through education and other programs. “It was great working with this charity,” says Raymond. “They gave us a lot of support with advertising, in terms of radio ads. We will definitely work with them again.”

Raymond and his team worked hard to rally local businesses and community organizations behind this great cause. “We got everyone involved,” says Raymond. “Woodland Hospital let us use its parking lot for the event. Local merchants donated prizes for the raffle. The area’s culinary arts school donated cakes, which were auctioned, and the local Boy Scouts directed traffic.”

To build excitement for the car show, the No. 60 Mustang was showcased at two local car dealerships and the WFG office the day before the event.

Although it competed against three other car shows in the area, the World Financial Group Classic Car Show was a success. “WFG got tremendous exposure,” says Raymond. “The best part was seeing the kids’ reaction to the car and giving away the gifts.”
